Honorary Consul J. Scofield Price was raised in a small mountain town with stories of his mother’s chance encounter with Mary Leakey at Olduvai Gorge, and his dad's journey from the rural south to California's beaches. After some wandering, he fell in love with Africa, living and working on the continent. Although he lives near Austin, Texas, Malawian chiefs gifted Hon. Consul Price a 25 acre property. In 2017, Malawi’s Ambassador to the United States asked him to serve Malawi as Honorary Consul for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Danny Badger, a native of Malawi, has spent his life immersed deep within the remote African bush. As General Manager of Mvuu Camp and Lodge, a family-owned safari business, he has dedicated himself to showcasing the splendor of Africa to indigenous Malawians and international visitors. Danny's keen eye and connection to the land led to his recognition as an Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year finalist. Danny's passion for photography, education, and hospitality reveals his lifelong devotion to conservation. Each image he captures tells an exhilarating story.
Karla Klay, founder of Artist Boat, uses participatory art to unlock minds to the urgency of wildlife conservation. Raised in the Florida Keys with dolphins as neighbors and sharks in her backyard, she developed a lifelong curiosity for all wild creatures. Karla has successfully raised $25 million to conserve thousands of acres of barrier island ecosystems, which are under immense pressure from vacation home development. Her programs have engaged over 5 million people, fostering a new generation of environmental stewards.
Rodney Bursiel has won many awards for his photographs and has benn face to face with great white sharks, salt water crocodiles, killer whales, 30 ton humpbacks, herds of stampeding horses and rock stars. He has surfed with Donavon Frankenreiter, wears flip flops and cowboy hats, and loves to read Christopher Moore books. he spent his childhood in the water, learned SCUBA at age 10 as a competitive swimmer. Rodney worked at Dell Computers for 5 days, had a pajama party with Angelina Jolie, played basketball with Kevin Costner, and climbed to the top of the Astrodome. Can’t get enough traveling!
Garth Irvine is a safari guide, conservationist, and former zookeeper with a passion for connecting people to the natural world. Over 25 years, he has guided African safaris, mentored zookeepers in Guyana, and worked on a sheep station in Australia’s Outback. Trained in animal care and conservation, Garth is also an accomplished photographer who helps travelers capture wildlife’s beauty. He has explored all seven continents, from Canada’s Arctic to the remote wilds of Africa. In addition to his conservation work, Garth is a storyteller who inspires others to protect the wildlife they cherish.
Jacob Calle is well versed in African communities and their social, cultural, and economic relationships with the continent's wildlife. He is a writer, film maker, zoologist, and animal behaviorist trained at Melbourne University. Jacob specializes in wildlife conservation with an emphasis on the illegal trade of pangolins and rhinos. He volunteers with South Africa's Witswatersrand University and the African Pangolin Working Group. Jacob enjoys the outdoors and spent 60 days solo in the remote Australian Outback. In his youth, his rambunctious activities garnered him a role with MTV’s SteveO from “Jackass” on the “Don’t Try This At Home” world tour.
Alice Péretié leads our gorilla safaris in Gabon. She is a French photographer who fell in love with Africa at a young age. Passionate of all things nature, conservation, art, literature, and philosophy, she’s made it her mission to reconnect man and nature through beauty and self-awareness. After graduating with a degree focused around best-practices in conservation, she taught literature and philosophy to pay for safaris. Alice loves exploring off-the-beaten track destinations, and leading meaningful adventures across Africa. Consider adding a stay at Alice's family chateau in Burgundy while en route to Africa.
George Malembo M’manga was recently awarded his Masters of Science at Mzuzu University for his groundbreaking study of the foraging partnership between an African bird species, the greater honeyguide, and village-based Malawian honey hunters whom the birds guide to beehives. His research improves understanding of human-bird cooperation. George has developed a protocol for ecotourism honey hunting experiences for this new form of immersive wildlife tourism.
